Background
In recent years Polish Cultural Week has become an exciting part of the Northern Ireland cultural calander. Organised by the Polish Association in Northern Ireland it aims to share Polish cultural heritage and help the Polish community to establish a genuine sense of belonging in Northern Ireland.
As youth workers we have a responsibility to support young people to prepare for life in an increasingly diverse society. Respecting and embracing diversity develops out of real and practical opportunities to develop an understanding of different cultures.
We have outlined a number of activities you may wish to use to explore this issue with your young people. Perhaps you have some Polish young people in your group. Activities such as these may be used give them an opportunity to share valuable insights into their culture and/or give other young people the opportunity to air any questions or concerns they may have on this topic.
