Frequently Asked Questions
Where did the JEDI name come from?
JEDI was a working title for this process which we have stayed with. It stands for 'Joined in Equity, Diversity and Interdependence'. The themes of Equity, Diversity and Interdependence, come from a piece of research by a team at the University of Ulster. The research entitled 'A Worthwhile Venture? Practically investing in Equity, Diversity & Interdependence in Northern Ireland', was written by Karin Eyben, Duncan Morrow and Derick Wilson, from the Future Ways Programme at the University of Ulster in Coleraine (UUC 1997). In their own words, "Community relations came to be about the search for the appropriate balance between three key democratic goals viewed together: Equity, Diversity and Interdependence."
Will JEDI mean an increase in resources on the ground?
The quick answer to this is yes, but this will take time. JEDI has produced research that has informed policy, training and practice. This will have an impact on funding policy, will result in the creation of new materials and guidelines, and new training courses which are part of an overall strategy. Can anyone get involved?
Well, yes and no - mostly yes! The steering group Terms of Reference for JEDI Membership has been agreed by the partners. However, through this site you can get involved by sending us your feedback and find out from the news section about JEDI events. You can also request a meeting or event in your own area by contacting JEDI staff.
